Patriot Day Observed by Card Lock® Company

Patriot Day CardLockSeptember 11 is about remembering and honoring those lives taken from us in the 2001 hijacking of four American commercial airplanes.

Several terrorists flew three of the planes into structures, which included the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth airplane was believed to be headed to the White House, but was forced down by heroic passengers as it crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

This day was the largest act of terrorism on American soil in the history of the United States. The immediate loss of life was nearly 3,000 people, which included many firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel. The economic impact was also immense. In New York City alone, the attack caused an additional loss of about 143,000 jobs per month over a three-month period. The attacks caused global stock markets to drop sharply, and the attacks themselves resulted in approximately $40 billion in insurance losses.

Attention to security here in America has increased greatly since these horrific attacks, and not just on a national level, but in our businesses, organizations and in our very homes.

Observing Patriot Day

As directed by the President, the flag of the United States of America is displayed at the White House, all United States government buildings, and on the homes of Americans. The flag is to be flown at half-staff in honor of all those that died on September 11, 2001.

A moment of silence is observed at 8:46 a.m. EDT, the time the first airplane flew into the World Trade Center. Church and other services are also held in parts of the country closest to the tragic event.
